General data

  • The Public Transport Authority(R.A.T.U.C.) is the most important public transportation operator in the public transportation field in the City of Cluj-Napoca.

  • The unit provides services to over 300,000 people in a city of over 350,000 residents.

  • The area covered by Public Transport Authority spans approximately 160 square km and the overall city area is of 178 square km.

  • The unit also provides services to some 50,000 people living in the peri-urban areas.

  • The transport network has an axial shape oriented West->North-East alongside the Somesul Mic river.

  • Three types of passenger transportation vehicles are used: buses, trolley-buses and tramways.

  • The ticket sale network consists of a total of 81 outlets of which 18 for seasonal tickets only and 63 for both tickets and seasonal tickets.

  • 18 traffic control units are used for the operational management of travelling vehicles.

  • The unit has three fuel pumps and eight electrical power substations.

  • The three sections are fitted with 390 parking lots and 321 shelters.

    Bus section

    • The section is in charge of passenger transportation by bus and maintenance of the bus fleet.

    • During working days 160 buses are used in average and 65 during non-working days.

    • There are 26 urban and 4 peri-urban bus-service lines that amount to 43 per cent of the overall number of passengers.

    • The cumulated length of the 26 lines is 305.2 km.

    • The maintenance and repair works as well as the periodical MOT tests are performed in this section.

    Trolley-bus section

    • This section is in charge of passenger transportation by trolley-bus and services 38 per cent of the total number of passengers.

    • During working days 85 trolley-buses are used in average and 45 during non-working days.

    • There are 8 trolley-bus lines that amount to a total lenght of 98.8 km.

    • The maintenance and repair works on the trolley-bus fleet are performed in this section.

    • This section is also in charge of maintenance and repair for the contact lines and the power substations.

    Tramway section

    • This section is in charge of passengers transportation by tramway on the 3 existing lines.

    • During working days an average of 35 tramways are in service and 16 during non-working days and they transport 19 per cent of the overall number of passengers.

    • The cumulated length of the 3 lines is 52.8 km double track.

    • The maintenance and repair works are performed in this section.

    ARCIM section

    • This section deals with current repair work and overhaul of buses as well as with the performance of reconditioning and spare part production.

    • Mechanical processing, welding, coiling, metal fittings works, etc. are performed.
